Release 10.1A: OpenEdge Development:
Programming Interfaces

Creating and viewing word indexes

To define a new word index or to view the word indexes already defined on a database table, use the OpenEdge Data Dictionary utility. For example, you can use this utility to view the word indexes of the sports database, including the word index associated with the item table and its cat–description field. For more information on creating and viewing word indexes using the OpenEdge Data Dictionary utility, see OpenEdge Development: Basic Development Tools or the OpenEdge Data Dictionary utility online help.

Word indexing very large fields
Note: If a word index is defined on a CHARACTER field that is extremely large, you might have to increase the value of the Stash Area (–stsh) startup parameter. Doing so increases the amount of space Progress uses to temporarily storage of modified indexes. For more information, see the reference entry for the Stash Area (–stsh) startup parameter in the OpenEdge Deployment: Startup Command and Parameter Reference .

Word indexing double-byte and triple-byte code pages

You can use word indexing with double-byte and triple-byte code pages. For more information, see the OpenEdge Development: Internationalizing Applications .
